87′ Nico Velez puts the ball in the net and he has been called OFFSIDE. A wrong call by the linesmen. He looks onside. No doubt, it was not offside.
A lot of fans are angry & disappointed towards the linesmen; however he had a decent game and made a mistake. He is human too and can make a mistake. With offside in football, at times you get the decision and sometimes you don’t. It is as simple as that. And with people having problems with Indian referees, even top European league referees get it wrong a lot and that cost teams valuable points. However, we cannot point fingers or abuse our Indian referees. They are getting more experience game by game and definitely will be better as they get more game time.
Yesterday, when the offside flag was raised, the covering defender (I think Gregory) stopped and goalkeeper (Kattimani) tried knowingly with his right leg and Velez went past the stagnant keeper to slot the ball into the empty net without anyone making a challenge to stop the play (as the offside flag was raised). This is what generally happens when an offside flag is raised, it stops play.
NEUFC are playing really good now and they overplayed GOA in every department at their backyard yesterday. We should have been more clinical and scored more goals. This is our major concern – finishing our chances. We are wasteful in front of goal. However, the defensive and midfield play is really good, special mention to players such as Raju, Hengbart, Rehenesh, Bikey, Kamara, Herrero, Velez have been really good this season.
Now, we have two home games left and should beat both the teams to book our semifinal place. Up and Forwards, Viva NEUFC!!!!!
P.S. The above write up offers a different perspective on the offside call of yesterday and again Velez was onside. Keep it Calm & Keep the faith!!!!!
